    Für die Homologation als Rennwagen wurden rund 100 Exemplare des Porsche 904 als Straßenfahrzeug zugelassen und an Privatkunden verkauft. Die Nachfrage war so groß, dass der Wagen bald zu einer hoch exklusiven Rarität wurde. Die unverwechselbare Optik, die das Porsche Design auszeichnet, und die Kombination aus technischen Neuerungen und niedrigen Produktionskosten taten ihr Übriges, um dem Porsche 904 einen Kultstatus zu verleihen, der bis heute anhält.
